Indiana’s Local Trails & Trail Reports

Indiana has four Snowmobile Trails provided through the cooperation of local snowmobile clubs, the Indiana Snowmobile Association, and the Department of Natural Resources.

  1. MIAMI SNOWMOBILE TRAIL-60 miles of trails developed by the Elkhart Co. Snowmobile Club around Goshen, Bristol, and Middlebury in northeastern Elkhart County. TRAIL REPORT

  2. HERITAGE SNOWMOBILE TRAIL-34 miles of trails developed by the Hoagland Blizzard Blazers Snowmobile Club around Hoagland and Maples in southeastern Allen County. TRAIL REPORT

  3. BUFFALO RUN SNOWMOBILE TRAIL-63 miles of trails developed by the Michiana Trail Riders Coalition west of South Bend in St. Joseph County. TRAIL REPORT

  4. SALAMONIE TRAIL-40 miles of trails on public land along the south side of Salamonie Reservoir in Wabash and Huntington Counties. The trail is maintained by the Salamonie Trailmasters Snowmobile Club. TRAIL REPORT

Indiana has one Snowmobile Trail provided through the cooperation of local snowmobile club and the Indiana Snowmobile Association only. It has no Indiana DNR affiliation.

  1. POTAWATOMI SNOWMOBILE TRAIL-32 miles of trails developed by the Potawatomi Snowmobile Club north of Angola in Steuben County. TRAIL REPORT

The snowmobile trails are open in December, January, February, and March when snow conditions are adequate.

There are trailheads at each trail for parking vehicles and trailers, and information about motels, restaurants, and service stations near the trials can be obtained by contacting a local chamber of commerce or calling the Indiana Tourism Development Division at 800-289-6646. Information about Trail Conditions is available after the first good snowfall from the ISA Website (24 hours a day, updated as trail conditions change). Only registered snowmobiles may be used on the trails.
The Department of Natural Resources' Snowmobile Program is completely funded by snowmobile registration fees; law enforcement activities, including the Snowmobile Safety Course, are also funded by the registration fees. For more information or to obtain maps, please contact:
