Improve your Life Campaign Sees Benefits of Outdoor Recreation

There are some changes occurring in Washington DC that could affect our public lands.  It is common knowledge the National Park System and the U.S forest Service is active in supplying critical, responsible outdoor recreation activity for the physical and mental wellbeing of all Americans.  Now the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other Land Managers are introducing new opportunities for recreation.  The Feds appear to have a clear understanding that enjoyment and appreciation of Public Land by the American taxpayer and voter is essential to its conservation and to the very survival of the Public Lands we have.

As Americans become wider and more lethargic, our healthcare costs increase and in general, people become unhappy.  Healthcare professionals clearly see the need for outdoor recreation activity.  They know that outdoor activity is not only good for the body but also good for the mind, soul and heart.

We snowmobilers realize that snowmobiling is a fun activity - good for the body, mind, heart and soul.  Nothing removes wrinkles off the face better than smiling while you're snowmobiling.

Recent studies by the American Recreation Coalition highlight how fewer Americans are recreating outdoors and statistics from the National Park Service visitation reports support the findings.  Recreation visits in our National Parks declined by approximately 1.5% this past year and are continuing a trend that began 20 years ago.  In some cases, visitations to some National Park locations are the lowest in history - even though our population is now over 300 million.

Snowmobiling on the other hand continues to be the most important of all outdoor winter recreation activities for over 2.8 million snowmobile owners.  Recreational snowmobiling is growing internationally.

Snowmobiling is an important recreation activity that is being recognized by more Land Managers, by Chambers of Commerce, by tax collectors, and more.  This year the snowmobile community will be introducing a "Take a Friend Snowmobiling" effort, which will encourage snowmobilers to take a non-snowmobiler out in the winter to go snowmobiling.  Studies show that non-snowmobilers have a very high desire rate to go snowmobiling and are eagerly waiting to be asked to spend the day on a sled.

We realize that snowmobiling is a good physical activity that's good for the mind and body, and now you know the majority of your non-snowmobiling friends have a burning desire to join you.  Consider marking a date on your calendar this winter and take at least one friend snowmobiling.  I'm confident the experience will give you hours of conversation, many good memories, and strengthen your friendship.  There's a real good chance your friend will always talk about the snowmobiling experience with you.  Your friend might even go out and purchase a sled so they can join you on those special weekends on the snow.
